Rising on a bat-wing tip from hell, the heartbeat of evil ticks alive "Into the Woods." An unsettling bass drum sets a slow and restless pace - war drums singling an onslaught of metal that is seconds from ripping out your heart with earth-scorching riffs and classic/doom metal vocals centered on themes like ritualistic sacrifice.
This is Forest Evil. Born and bred in the Lowcountry, the Savannah, Georgia quartet rose to life in early 2019 around four longtime friends, Ryan Goss (guitar), Chris Gamble (bass), Christian Perez (drums) and Daniel Stephens (vocals).
Marching out of the woods and into the Savannah scene, Forest Evil brought their ritualistic stoner/doom metal right into the forefront opening for traveling legends like Bask and Toke. Throughout "Into The Woods," are the indelible influences of early hellhounds Black Sabbath laced with sludge metal giants likes EyeHateGod and Weedeater, as well as doom metal monsters Sleep and Church of Misery.
What rests just under the wall of distortion is a heavy Southern Rock influence that acts as a foundation in the riff formation, creating a fresh sound that is entirely Southern.
Teaming up with engineer Chris "Scary" Adams, of hometown heroes Black Tusk, at his Hidden Audio studio in Savannah, "Into The Woods" is an eight-track debut of all original Satan worshiping, THC-fueled metal that straddles the line between doom and stoner, becoming something completely owned by Forest Evil.
The relentless grove from the rhythm section acts as both heartbeat and driver. Over the top, comes darkened and distorted riffs that offer a malaise of sound. Then vocals rip through the groove with screeching intensity, delivering lyrics that offer an escape from the divisiveness of modern life. Forest Evil's opening salvo is a dark, relentless meditation offered on a pentagram-shaped alter and brought to life by camo-clad boys born in the woods with nothing to prove to anyone.
