Description
Sorceress, the legendary precursor to underground touchstone projects Mizmor and Hell, is releasing its remastered 2009 album on vinyl for the first time, finally making the fabled record - which trailblazed new sonic territory by blending fuzzy psychedelic rock with traditional doom - available to a worldwide audience in 2023.
Sorceress (made of A.L.N., Mizmor; M.S.W., Hell; Andrew Black, and Blake Ferrin) was a short-lived project based in Salem, OR, that ran from 2008 to 2011, and was heavily inspired by the stoner/doom explosion of the mid-2000s. Formed from the dissolution of its alternative rock predecessor, Love Machine (active from 2006 to 2007), the new band took its name, sound, and musical direction from the last track on Love Machine's only record, Red Love White Magic.
In Beneath the Mountain, a concept album of sorts, Sorceress forged a new pathway in metal, combining a love for all things fantasy and lore (including The Lord of the Rings, Greek and Norse mythology, and stories from Christianity) with slow, churning, and distorted riffs inspired by The Sword, Witchcraft, Electric Wizard, Burning Witch, Sleep, Black Sabbath, and Witch.
